With the virtual world feeling so unfamiliar to so many, navigating the unique expectations of online volunteering can be a daunting task. That鈥檚 why it鈥檚 been inspiring to see many of our former in-person volunteers meet this new challenge head-on, no matter their comfort (or discomfort) with technology.听

Previously a volunteer tutor at F. D. Roosevelt Elementary turned 成人快播 Connects tutor, Nancy Carlson reflects on the differences between being in-person with students and building relationships virtually.听

鈥淚 was comfortable with and enjoyed the in-person interaction with the students,鈥� Nancy shares. 鈥淏eing on their campus and having a chance to walk with the student, chat, and work side-by side gave me so much insight into their world and interests. I confess I was concerned about losing the very personal interaction from which both student and tutor gained so much when transitioned to an on-screen only environment.鈥�

When asked to join 成人快播 as an online volunteer tutor, Nancy first thought of the students she鈥檇 worked with through the years.听

鈥淚 love tutoring these young students and could not imagine losing the opportunity to continue this enriching experience just because of a new challenge for me that seemed somewhat intimidating — new technology.鈥� says Nancy. 鈥淚f I expected my students to learn why 鈥榯humb鈥� has a silent 鈥榖鈥� on the end or that 鈥榮oar鈥� and 鈥榮ore鈥� sound the same, but are not the same in any other way, surely I should step up and be tutored in something new myself. I swallowed my pride and dove into the 鈥榮creen鈥� world I had been avoiding.鈥�

As she began her online venture into 成人快播 Connects, Nancy was happily surprised by the virtual space 成人快播 created.听

鈥淲hen I saw the material, detail and thoughtfulness of the 成人快播 Connects approach, I was hooked,鈥� says Nancy. 鈥淚 could only imagine the passion, effort, energy, and 鈥榮marts鈥� of the 成人快播 team putting this together, and it propelled me forward. Yes, I struggled initially and still find new ways to create 鈥榞litches鈥� but the staff is there continuously to support and encourage.鈥澨�

听Nancy now volunteers with 成人快播 four days a week via Zoom. With the support of her wonderful site coordinator, Davis, she delivers high quality, personalized instruction to her students.听

鈥淭his works, it actually works!鈥� Nancy exclaims. 鈥淚 still feel I am able to contribute to young, eager minds and have learned a great deal myself in the process.鈥�

When asked what she would say to anyone who is hesitant to sign up for 成人快播 Connects, Nancy replied: 鈥�Do not be intimidated by this new environment; if you, like me, are a novice, the support provided is exemplary. Know that you actually can develop a student/tutor relationship in this environment that is enriching and satisfying and gets results.鈥澨�

There is one particular aspect of the classroom setting that Nancy is grateful to avoid:听 鈥淣o tiny chairs!”
